Experiences with generating diagnostic training cases from dismissal reports

In [BBH04] we presented an approach for generating diagnostic training cases from dismissal reports in order to reduce both author’s effort and time-to-class for new training cases. In the past year we finished the tool CaseImporter and several authors used it to implement their own training systems, some of them being part of lectures. In this paper, we analyze both approach and tool with respect to the experiences made in these projects. After giving a short overview on idea, approach and tool, we show a sample authoring session. After that, we analyze each authoring feature in depth, before presenting the results of evaluation. Experiences show that CaseImporter stands the test and fulfills expectations: Authors with little or no experience in computer-based training are able to develop sophisticated case based diagnostic training systems.
